The rapid increase in incarceration of children disproportionately affects African-American children. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/magazine\/story\/2015\/03\/criminal-kids-juvenile-justice-sentencing-reform-incarceration-116065.html?ml=m_b1_1#.VQ2mIzTF9vq\" target=\"_blank\">Read the article<\/a> for a compelling in-depth analysis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burr.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/CISA2015asFiled.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act<\/a> passed through the Intelligence Committee on a 14-1 vote. The bill\u2019s main purpose is to provide corporations protection for sharing data related to cybersecurity. Senator Ron Wyden, the lone vote against the bill, <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2015\/03\/19\/political-pressure-to-pass-cisa-quickly-could-pose-big-problem-for-civil-liberties\/\" target=\"_blank\">argued that it will<\/a> \u201chave a limited impact on U.S. cybersecurity\u201d while lacking \u201cadequate protections for the privacy rights of American consumers.\u201d It is unclear if the White House will maintain its veto threat from a similar bill last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eric Garner Grand Jury Testimony<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/america.aljazeera.com\/articles\/2015\/3\/19\/judge-refuses-to-release-grand-jury-testimony-in-eric-garner-case.html\" target=\"_blank\">court denied<\/a> The New York Civil Liberties Union\u2019s request to release grand jury testimony from the death of Eric Garner. The NYCLU argued that the release would help the public reconcile the Garner video with the decision not to indict the police officer. The judge found that the NYCLU did not establish a \u201ccompelling and particularized need\u201d as required by law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>University of Virginia Student Brutally Arrested<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/martese-johnson-protests-break-uva-students-arrest\/story?id=29756778\" target=\"_blank\">Thousands of students<\/a> at the University of Virginia protested following the arrest of one of their fellow students at a nearby campus bar. Martese Johnson, an African-American student trying to gain entrance in to the bar, was beaten and bloodied by the bar\u2019s security. Governor McAuliffe has called for an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2015\/03\/19\/us\/uva-police-brutality-allegations\/\" target=\"_blank\">independent investigation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Department of Education Sees Record High Civil Rights Complaints<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Department of Education saw a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/local\/wp\/2015\/03\/18\/civil-rights-complaints-to-u-s-department-of-education-reach-a-record-high\/\" target=\"_blank\">record number of civil rights<\/a> complaints this past year. The agency is seeking to have an increased budget to account for the requests. Many attribute the increased requests because of the Obama Administration\u2019s guidance on sexual harassment under Title IX.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prison Replacing
