Student Notes<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Information<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Harvard International Law Journal<\/em> publishes at least one Student Note per issue. We are currently taking submissions for Volume 67(2) until December 23, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only submissions from current Harvard Law School students and former students who graduated within the past year are eligible for consideration<\/strong>. LLM or SJD students from other law schools interested in publishing shorter pieces are encouraged to submit to ILJ Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Note Format and Content <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notes should be approximately 8,000-16,000 words, including footnote citations. All footnotes should adhere to\u00a0The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation<\/em>\u00a0style guidelines from the most recent edition. Notes should also contain an abstract of about 200 words, but a table of contents is not necessary. Authors may want to include a description of the Note\u2019s contribution to a particular area of international law in the abstract or in the email accompanying the submission. HILJ <\/em>publishes works that focus on areas of public or private international law. Articles that cover issues in foreign or comparative law may also be considered, so long as they have an international law angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notes will be evaluated based on the clarity of the writing, the strength of the argument, and the originality of the thesis, among other criteria. Notes will undergo a comprehensive editing process, and authors should expect to make additional revisions before publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Submission Logistics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Successful Notes are engaging, make novel arguments, and are grounded in international or comparative law. Submissions should be between 8,000 and 16,000 words, including footnote citations. Only current HLS students or graduates one year out (J.D.s, LL.M.s, S.J.D.s, and visiting students) are eligible for the Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
