Testifies to World Bank Directors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Wolfowitz testified before the panel of World Bank directors today as part of the continuing investigation of his conduct in the Shaha Riza controversy and amid increasing pressure from the international community for his resignation.\u00c2\u00a0 Oxfam International, the first \u00e2\u20ac\u0153top-tier non-governmental\u00e2\u20ac\u009d organization to support the resignation campaign, joined the call for Wolfowitz\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ousting in a statement to the Financial Times on Sunday, asserting that the World Bank cannot fulfill its obligation to the poor when it has been \u00e2\u20ac\u0153deeply compromised\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by this ethical dispute. \u00c2\u00a0Wolfowitz, who was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153combative\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153defiant\u00e2\u20ac\u009d during his testimony according to some reports, said today, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I will not resign in the face of a plainly bogus charge of conflict of interest\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and referred to the call for his resignation as a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153smear campaign.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information, see
