Jason Cohen is the General Counsel for the Dallas Cowboys. Jason’s vast legal practice, which touches the Cowboys’ team, business, brand, and everything in between, gives him valuable insight into many areas of sports law. I reached out to Jason to talk about his professional journey and advice for law students.

How did you begin working in the sports law industry?
Internship with the Oakland Raiders and WFAN Sports Radio 66AM.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
The variety, pace, and challenge.
What has been a highlight from your career?
Just one is hard…been very lucky…Helping launch a professional sports league in this country (Women’s Professional Soccer) and helping to build The Star in Frisco.
What piece of advice would you give to a current law student who wants a career in sports law?
Every legal experience you have can shape your “sports law” path if you’ll be open to it – do great work, pour yourself into everything you do, and seize the opportunity.
What is a recent sports law case or trend that interested students should do some research about?
The intersection of crypto and sports/entertainment – it’s so far beyond just a utility and has the potential to change every aspect of the industry as we know it!
What do you like to do in your free time?
Play ice hockey poorly.
