The Committee of Sports & Entertainment Law welcomed Jeff Pash as its first guest of the year.
On Thursday, NFL General Counsel Jeff Pash joined Caleigh Sturgeon ’26 for a wide-ranging conversation about his career, the state of the league, and the challenges that lawyers face in the sports industries.
Pash detailed his career, which began at the Washington D.C. office of Covington & Burling LLP, and his transition to working as General Counsel at the National Hockey League before settling into his long-term role at the National Football League. During his time with the NFL, Pash has overseen the expansion of the league across international markets and has guided its legal office through numerous lawsuits, including the ongoing antitrust claims regarding Sunday Ticket.
“Don’t worry about being a sports lawyer,” said Pash to the room brimming with law students. “Just be a good lawyer.” Pash spoke proudly of the diversity of skills needed to confront the ever-changing issues in the sports industries.
After the lunch talk, Pash joined Professor Peter Carfagna as a guest in his Sports and the Law: Legal Evolution of the Three Leagues course. He spoke with students about collective bargaining agreements, the authorities granted to league commissioners, and the role of arbitration in dispute resolution.
