{"id":1904,"date":"2018-01-31T09:20:43","date_gmt":"2018-01-31T14:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/journals.law.harvard.edu\/jsel\/?p=1904"},"modified":"2023-07-25T11:45:14","modified_gmt":"2023-07-25T15:45:14","slug":"recording-academy-holds-20th-entertainment-law-initiative-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journals.law.harvard.edu\/jsel\/2018\/01\/recording-academy-holds-20th-entertainment-law-initiative-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Recording Academy Holds 20th Entertainment Law Initiative Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last weekend, in New York City, the Recording Academy hosted the industry\u2019s top, as well as up and coming, entertainment lawyers at the 20<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Entertainment Law Initiative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammy.com\/entertainment-law-initiative\">Event<\/a>. The Entertainment Law Initiative is a gathering where industry practitioners have the opportunity to honor its members who have made significant contributions. This year the event presented awards to Michael Reinert, a partner at Fox Rothschild LLP, and Allen Grubman, a partner at Grubman, Shire, Meiselas &amp; Sacks, P.C. for their service to the industry over the years. Both Reinert and Grubman shared their experiences as new lawyers starting out in the industry, naming and thanking mentors who helped them along the way.<\/p>\n<p>Central to the Entertainment Law Initiative\u2019s purpose, to \u201csupport promising law students interested in entertainment law,\u201d the event also honored Rebecca Pollack, a law student at Lewis &amp; Clark Law School, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammy.com\/press-releases\/20th-annual-entertainment-law-initiative%C2%AE-event-scholarship-presentation-announces\">winner of the Initiative\u2019s writing contest<\/a>. Pollack made a brief appearance on stage summarizing the thesis of her paper titled &#8220;Innovation Or Exploitation: Is It Time To Update The DMCA Safe Harbors?\u201d\u00a0 As winner of the contest, Pollack will receive a $10,000 scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Following the awards, the event featured New York State Attorney\u00a0General Eric Schneiderman. The attorney general spoke of his love for music and his work fighting ticket bots and scalpers, reminding the audience of the importance of the work they do in supporting music.
