Gabriel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-waiter-that-made-mayweather-pacquiao-happen-1430504209\">Rueda<\/a> is demanding a finder\u2019s fee for supposedly setting up the 2015 blockbuster boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. Rueda, also known as Gabriel Salvador,was an acquaintance of Pacquiao\u2019s legendary trainer, Freddie Roach, because his son occasionally worked out at Roach\u2019s Wild Card Gym. When CBS chief executive Les Moonves came into Rueda\u2019s restaurant, Rueda told him he could \u201chelp get this fight going.\u201d He subsequently set up a meeting between Moonves and Roach that he claims was instrumental to the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Rueda <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eater.com\/2016\/2\/25\/11114040\/waiter-sues-pacquiao-8-million-mayweather-fight\">sued<\/a> the Pacquiao team in California state court to recover the \u201cfinder\u2019s fee\u201d that he alleges Roach promised him, which was 2% of the gross <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law360.com\/articles\/1091578\/waiter-claiming-he-set-up-fight-kos-pacquiao-s-appeal\">proceeds<\/a> paid to CBS and its subsidiary Showtime, as well as subsequent damages for extortion and intentional infliction of emotional distress.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, an appellate panel <a href=\"https:\/\/1.next.westlaw.com\/Document\/I4bcf7500cdb211e8ae6bb4b0ae8dca5a\/View\/FullText.html?originationContext=typeAhead&amp;transitionType=Default&amp;contextData=(sc.Default)\">dismissed<\/a> Pacquiao\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.casp.net\/california-anti-slapp-first-amendment-law-resources\/statutes\/\">anti-SLAPP<\/a> motion, allowing the case to move forward.
