The Harvard Latin American Law Review<\/em> (HLALR<\/em>) provides a forum for the scholarly discussion of legal issues affecting Latin American communities in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volume 29 is currently in the process of being published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent articles (Volume 28) addressed issues including the life and legacy of Graciela Gil Olivarez, often called \u201cAmazing Grace”<\/a>, a thorough analysis of artificial intelligence’s evolving role in modern society<\/a>, the hidden costs of intergovernmental contracts premised on section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act<\/a>, the compatibility of the new front-of-package nutritional labelling regulations in Latin American countries with World Trade Organization law<\/a>, and an empirical and narrative report of 88 families\u2019 cases across nine Dedicated Docket hearings in the North Los Angeles immigration court<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volume 26 addressed issues including Colombia’s counter-narcotics strategy known as “Plan Colombia”<\/a>, the historical and present realities of anti-Mexican violence in the United States<\/a>, the myths and realities of one of Harvard Law School’s most prominent Afro-Puerto Rican alumni, Pedro Albizu Campos, during his time at HLS<\/a>, and the reasons why Title IX is failing to properly protect Latina women in the United States<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volume 25 addressed issues including ineffective assistance of counsel in the crimmigration context<\/a>, the exclusion of Puerto Rico\u2019s municipalities from the 1984 Amendments to the U.S. Bankruptcy Code<\/a>, and the international legal implications of Trump-era removal practices for asylees<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HLALR <\/em>has also interviewed the following people: Lisa J. Pino (former Director of Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services)<\/a>, Maria Elvira Salazar (U.S. Representative)<\/a>, David Iglesias (former U.S. Attorney and U.S. Navy JAG Officer)<\/a>, Tom Perez (former Chair of the Democratic National Committee)<\/a>, Juli\u00e1n Castro (former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development)<\/a>, Irene Oria (President of the Hispanic National Bar Association)<\/a>, Justice Mariano-Florentino Cu\u00e9llar of the Supreme Court of California<\/a>, David Lopez (former General Counsel of the U.S. E.E.O.C.)<\/a>, and Joaquin Castro (U.S. Representative)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HLALR<\/em> is an annual publication. You can read past issues<\/a> online or find information on subscriptions. In the past, the journal has published works by law professors, practitioners, politicians, and law students.
