Amid clashes between protesters and the police, the reporters ran afoul of the law. They went places where they weren\u2019t supposed to go, and they did things they weren\u2019t supposed to do. Or so claim the police.<!--more--><span id=\"more-8382\" style=\"font-style: inherit\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #505050\"><a href=\"http:\/\/journals.law.harvard.edu\/hlpr\/files\/2012\/01\/occupy-wall-street-we-are-the-99-300x199.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1172 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.law.harvard.edu\/hlpr\/files\/2012\/01\/occupy-wall-street-we-are-the-99-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"occupy-wall-street-we-are-the-99-300x199\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>OWS might not signal the high-water mark of press freedom, but it\u2019s brought that freedom into sharp focus, through the prism of protest. What rights do reporters have to gather the news? Do they need credentials? Do reporters have the right in public places to record police activity? If a police officer unlawfully interferes with a reporter while she\u2019s gathering the news, can the reporter sue the officer?<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #505050\"><a style=\"font-style: inherit;color:
