{"id":800,"date":"2011-04-28T08:14:15","date_gmt":"2011-04-28T12:14:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www3.law.harvard.edu\/journals\/hlpr\/?p=800"},"modified":"2015-10-02T15:57:40","modified_gmt":"2015-10-02T15:57:40","slug":"chris-christie-lambasts-the-states-judiciary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journals.law.harvard.edu\/lpr\/2011\/04\/28\/chris-christie-lambasts-the-states-judiciary\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris Christie Lambasts the State\u2019s Judiciary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #505050\"><em>Smita Ghosh<span style=\"font-weight: bold\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #505050\">\u201cIf that\u2019s the kind of New Jersey you want to live in, that\u2019s find by me,\u201d Chris Christie\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/www.nj.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2011\/04\/christie_bashes_legislature_su.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+StatelineorgRss-CrimeCourts+%28Stateline.org+RSS+-+Crime+%26+Courts%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader\">noted threateningly<\/a>\u00a0at a Town Hall meeting in Hamilton Township.\u00a0 Chris Christie wasn\u2019t talking about Snooki\u2019s Jersey Shore, or\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/www.nj.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2011\/04\/experts_say_rising_temperature.html\">reported<\/a>\u00a0bed bug sightings in Hackensack and Paramus.\u00a0 In fact, Christie was referring to the state-wide\u00a0effects of\u00a0Judge Barry Albin, who has been a frequent target of some of the Governor\u2019s recent barbs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #505050\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #505050\">Governor Christie\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/articles.philly.com\/2011-04-24\/news\/29468954_1_school-funding-poor-schools-education-law-center\">announced<\/a>\u00a0on an April radio show that he would ignore\u00a0future\u00a0Supreme Court rulings in Abbott v. Burke, an education funding case, if they required that he \u00a0committ more state money to education.\u00a0\u00a0 Last year, Christie chose not to re-nominate Judge John Wallace for the New Jersey Supreme Court,\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/05\/04\/justice-john-e-wallace-ou_n_562640.html\">citing<\/a>\u00a0Christie\u2019s desire to \u201cchange the direction\u201d in which the court was moving.\u00a0 Wallace\u2019s seat has not yet\u00a0been filled.\u00a0 Christie\u2019s recent remarks, as well as his comments about Wallace, herald a development that the Philadelphia Inquirer cleverly titled \u201c<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/articles.philly.com\/2011-04-24\/news\/29468954_1_school-funding-poor-schools-education-law-center\">Christie v. Court<\/a>,\u201d and threaten, for<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/blog.nj.com\/njv_guest_blog\/2011\/04\/christie_urging_court_toward_a.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+StatelineorgRss-CrimeCourts+%28Stateline.org+RSS+-+Crime+%26+Courts%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader\">\u00a0some<\/a>, an abuse of Gubernatorial power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #505050\">Christie\u2019s recent politicking\u2013just today he\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/www.nj.com\/mercer\/index.ssf\/2011\/04\/gov_chris_christie_assails_do-.html\">chided<\/a>\u00a0the \u201cdo-nothing\u201d legislature for their inaction on school reform\u2013coincides with this week\u2019s school board elections in the state.\u00a0 Additionally, Christie may be basking in the glow of some conservative attention: at the Conservative PAC conference this February, Ann Coulter\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2011\/04\/27\/coulter-recalibrates-2012-prediction-says-romney-may-beat-obama-too\/\">suggested<\/a>\u00a0that Christie could beat Obama if he became the 2012 Republican presidential nominee.\u00a0\u00a0 Christie hasn\u2019t announced his candidacy, and recent\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit;color: #3f6dcf\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110430123447\/http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/story\/2011\/04\/20\/968680\/-NJ-Gov:-Poll-responders-say-Chris-Christie-is-arrogant-and-a-bully-\">polls<\/a>\u00a0of
